Plan a return across the four-row board

Start the game and identify the snake's direction before pressing another arrow, W, A, S or D, or an on-screen direction control. Cozcade's edition displays a visible 40-by-4 board. The short height makes a return route important: decide which row you expect to use when coming back across the board rather than turning repeatedly toward food without considering the growing body.

Eating food lengthens the snake, so space that was open at the start can later be occupied by its own path. Before a turn, look at both the nearby body and the route beyond the next cell. A wide return can be easier to read than a tight loop, but the current body layout decides whether that route is available. This guide describes the visible-board adaptation, not the original upstream demonstration that plays in a browser address bar.

Name the collision and change one routing habit

A run ends when the snake meets an edge or its body. Afterward, distinguish those two failures. An edge collision may come from a late turn or losing track of direction. A body collision may mean the return route closed behind you. On the next attempt, focus on earlier route planning or on checking the intended row before turning, depending on the cause you observed.

Use the game's pause and restart controls when needed; a checkbox in this center does not pause the snake. For practice, aim to make a series of turns with a route you can explain, rather than chasing a score without reading the narrow board. The available space changes as the body grows, so no repeated route is guaranteed forever. The linked play page contains the edition's exact controls and failure rules, while this center helps choose what to practise on the next run.

For a focused attempt, decide on the return row before taking food near the end of a long horizontal route. Check that the row remains open and that your turn will not immediately meet the body. As the snake grows, reassess that plan before each return. If it closes, identify an available route while there is still time to change direction. The four-row height is the practical constraint behind this exercise. It encourages looking beyond the next food tile instead of assuming that a short turn will always leave room to escape.

URL Snake questions and answers

Why is it called URL Snake?

The original project played with address-bar rendering. Cozcade’s reviewed adaptation keeps the narrow board and rules while presenting a normal visible game area.

Do the edges wrap around?

No. In the documented adaptation, hitting an edge ends the run.

Where is the best score saved?

It is kept on this device. The original project uses the Unlicense; source and notices remain available below.
