Character level and extraction mastery are different
The Taiwan official guide says gathering becomes available at character level 45. That is a character requirement for the service documented there, not a universal Global-server unlock rule. Essence Extraction mastery is the separate gathering level you raise by extracting materials.
The Global database labels the faction upgrade quests with level 10 and recommended level 45, while their objective explicitly requires Essence Extraction mastery 50. Read those fields separately: a quest listing marked level 10 does not establish that a level 10 character can gather, and character level 50 does not prove you have mastery 50. Open your gathering skills and quest panel to identify the condition still missing.

How a gathering attempt succeeds or fails
Interact with a gathering node using the prompt shown by your client; the Taiwan guide illustrates F. Extraction has a Success gauge and a Failure gauge. The attempt succeeds when Success reaches 100 first, and fails when Failure reaches 100 first. Each attempt consumes node durability even when it fails; the node disappears when its durability is exhausted.
Repeated extraction raises your gathering level and grants dedicated skill points. The official guide says higher extraction level improves gathering speed and success. If a node repeatedly fails, check its requirement and your current skills before spending the rest of its durability. A nearby material you can gather consistently is a useful fallback while you inspect the next requirement.
Choose skill points for your next material
The gathering skill menu contains common skills and material-specific specialty passives. The official guide also documents a reset that returns allocated points. Start by identifying the material you actually need, then read the applicable common and specialty descriptions in your client. A bonus for a different material does not solve your current objective.
When raising your gathering level, compare successful attempts and time spent reaching nodes. For an upgrade quest, prioritize satisfying its material objective. These are different goals, so this guide does not label one allocation the best build for every character. Before resetting, note your existing allocation and check any reset conditions displayed by the current interface.
Complete the level 50 professional upgrade
Once Essence Extraction mastery reaches 50, check for the faction quest named [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill. The Taiwan official guide confirms a professional upgrade quest at gathering level 50. The Global 2.0.6.0 quest records specify Korius in Verteron for Elyos, or Alzirr in Altgard for Asmodians.
Follow the sequence for your faction: talk to the listed NPC, activate the objective to gather one Splendent Ruby (Bound), collect that quest item, then return to the same NPC. The records list Essence Extraction Upgrade: Professional and Artwork: Artisan Essence Extractor (Bound) as rewards. After turning in the quest, inspect the reward and your gathering panel to see which upgrade action your current client offers.

Ruby quest regions for Elyos and Asmodians
Elyos: the Korius quest lists Ellun River Midstream, Verteron Fortress Ruins, Destroyed Abyss Gate and Kraka Footpath. Asmodians: the Alzirr quest lists Dredgion Crash Site, Calderon Canyon, Tranein Highland, Silent Hill and Nameless Cemetery. Use the region names and objective marker in your own faction quest. These are quest-listed areas, not a ranking of the fastest farming routes or verified node coordinates.
The Global item records tie the bound quest Ruby to an active quest stage. Start the gathering objective before farming nodes, and check that the item name and quest counter match. An ordinary Ruby in your inventory is not proof that this objective is complete. The database does not supply an exact drop probability, so a single attempt is not a guaranteed quest Ruby.

Build a gathering loop you can measure
Choose one reachable area containing materials suitable for your current gathering level. Check bag space, the node requirement and the relevant skill descriptions before starting. Gather along a short route, then compare mastery before and after, successful attempts and travel time. If the route has repeated failures or long journeys between usable nodes, change the material or area and compare again.
Keep leveling and quest progress separate in your notes. When you reach mastery 50, switch to the upgrade objective rather than continuing to gather unrelated materials. After a patch or server transfer, recheck the skill menu and quest text before repeating an old route. No verified 1–100 fastest route, fixed experience table or universal skill allocation is claimed here.

Essence Extraction questions
Does Essence Extraction unlock at character level 45 everywhere?
The official Taiwan guide gives level 45 for that service. This guide does not confirm the same unlock condition for every Global server. Character level, quest recommended level and extraction mastery are separate fields.
Which NPC handles the level 50 upgrade?
The Global 2.0.6.0 records name Korius in Verteron for Elyos and Alzirr in Altgard for Asmodians. Follow the NPC and objective shown by your current faction quest.
Why does my Ruby not complete the quest?
Check that the gathering objective is active and that you obtained the exact Splendent Ruby (Bound) quest item. The database associates its acquisition with a quest stage; an ordinary Ruby does not establish completion.
Can a failed attempt use up the gathering node?
Yes. The Taiwan official guide says failed attempts also consume durability. A node disappears once its durability is exhausted.
Is there a verified fastest 1–100 leveling route?
Not in the sources used for this page. Use a short gathering loop and compare success, mastery gained and travel time for your own level and server rather than relying on an unsupported fastest-route claim.
